Buttercream Wedding Cakes

I created this delightful buttercream rustic wedding cake for a consultation and I thought I would share it with you as its just so pretty.  I love this style of simple loveliness,  I mean how can you go wrong with a combination of buttercream, pearls, raffia... raffia on a cake... brilliant! and lavender.  Sorry, I am really not singing my own praises, this was one of my brides ideas!

I think buttercream style wedding cakes are going to be quite popular this year and I hope they are as I just want to make them and look at them.

I hope you enjoy a little peek at this cake and please do leave me a comment if you fancy.

I do love a wedding cake consultation

I had a lovely couple over for their wedding cake consultation on Saturday, they are interested in my sumptuous 4 tier Victoria sponge cake but they are going for some lemon tiers in there too with lemon curd and lemon buttercream, just too tasty for words.  Their wedding will be in October so the berries will be lovely Autumnal ones like blackberries, red currants and black currants, gorgeous!  The bride has also opted for rich dark coloured roses... in her words 'no pink' so the cake will have a Autumnal twist to it.

I always thoroughly enjoy preparing for my consultations and put on a 'right good spread' even though I do say so myself! with cake, tea served in vintage china, vintage tablecloths and lots of lovely flowers in antique bottles and vases.  I am in my element putting it all together, lighting candles and arranging things, then going back and rearranging them, getting things just right for when they walk in.

I really want my bride and grooms to enjoy their engagement and consultations are a huge part of this; tasting the cake that their guests will be treated to on the big day, sipping tea from china and having a really good chat about their wedding, I love it when the bride says 'oh I have some photos here of things I love' I get so excited for their day and enjoy feeling inspired by their ideas... yippee for weddings... I just love them and the excitement they bring!

Giveaway! A fab new cake book

I have a lovely little competition for all you people out there thinking of or in the process of starting up your very own cake business from home.
I was contacted by Alison McNicol who is a UK author. She has just published a new book for UK bakers wishing to start their own cake business, so we thought it would be a great idea for us to devise a competition for all you lovely people who read my blog to enter. If you simply can't wait then you can buy Alison's book at Amazon
All you have to do to be in with a chance of receiving this book is answer the question below with your email address; the best will be picked and announced on my blog, Alison will then send out a copy to the lucky winner.
Question: If Jessie J had her own cake business, what would she call it?
The competition ends at midnight on Sunday 1st July and the winners will be announced right here shortly after that. UK entrants only.
Good luck, I cant wait to see your answers!

Victoria sponge wedding cake, raffia and milk churns!

I made a 4 tier Victoria sponge wedding cake this Saturday and set it up at a pretty little golf club in Leicester. The bride Carla had some beautiful vintage decorations, including raffia around all the chairs, milk churns filled with beautiful flowers and just general amazing rustic vintageness which is my favourite.
The Victoria sponge cake was surrounded by summer berries and mint leaves. The bride had also left some rose heads to go around it too.
The overall look was gorgeous! Vintage and Cake x

Laura and Michael's wedding cakes

Remember the lovely lady I ran a hen party cupcake decorating workshop for... well I made her wedding cakes too and here they are!

Laura and Michael are such a lovely couple, they came to me for their wedding cakes and revealed the news that they were expecting their first baby too! Little Toby was born only a couple of months ago and goodness me he is cute. Laura and Michael had a lot on their plate as they had to organise their wedding too, but let me just say what an amazing job they did, it all looked beautiful.
They were married at the gorgeous Beechenhill Farm in Ilam, which is one of my favourite places, so tranquil and beautiful. They decided to go for 50 vintage style cupcakes with chocolate and vanilla flavours. They also went for my rustic vintage buttercream wedding cake, with lemon and chocolate flavours. It all looked stunning on their cute little cake table. Lovely couple, beautiful wedding. I wish you a long and happy life together Laura and Michael! Vintage and Cake x
